Japan’s Inbound Tourism Trends (September 2024): 2,872,200 Visitors, Surpassing Last Year’s Annual Total by September

• The number of international visitors to Japan in September reached 2,872,200, representing a 31.5% increase compared to the same month last year and a 26.4% increase compared to September 2019. This marks the eighth consecutive month in which the monthly figure has reached a record high. The cumulative total up to September was 26,880,200 visitors, surpassing the previous year’s annual total of 25,066,350 visitors.
• The increase in visitors this month was driven by a rise in tourists from various regions, including China in East Asia, Malaysia in Southeast Asia, and the United States in the Europe/Americas/Oceania & Middle East regions, compared to the same month last year.
• Among the 23 regions, 18 regions (South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Australia, the United States, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Nordic region, and the Middle East region) recorded the highest-ever figures for September.
